Member’s Trophy Day – New Kuta Golf, 23 Jan 2019

We celebrated Birthday Boy Tony Colley’s half century on Monday 21st, and he was clearly recovered sufficiently to turn out resplendent in a fetching new outfit to host his Member’s Trophy Day on the Wednesday, as evidenced by the disturbingly intimate photo below.

This very social event keeps going from strength to strength, and Tony’s day brought out a large field of 38 players, including 4 guests playing a Stroke format off the White Tees. Members were vying for Tony’s excellent trophy, a fine bottle of Remy Martin Cognac, with accompanying glasses.

There were a few terrific scores, with everyone trying to take advantage of the friendlier White Tees, and battling or being assisted by, a fresh breeze. No better player on the day, however, than Peter “Lazarus” Manz back from golf’s wilderness to fire a fine 79 off the stick, which resulted in a nett 66 for the 13 handicapper.

Peter was pressed in the home straight by Mr Consistency Alan Legg, whose three consecutive closing birdies on 16-18 brought him within 1 shot on 67, simultaneously gladdening the heart of his playing partner, the trophy donor, and breaking those of opponents Robbie Goodwin and Roland O’Neill, who were up to then confident of inflicting yet another loss on the donor… Third place, and the only other Member under handicap, was Alan Gore on 69.

First-time Guest Lori Cogo played the unfamiliar course very well indeed, coming in best of the guests with a nett 68.

This month’s Donor will be the whitely hirsute Tony Brandenburg on 20th February. Get there – you know you want to!

We have only one monthly slot left for Donors to fill – March of this year –  so if you would like to claim the day, please write or otherwise contact Robbie at After the May Golf Week, we will start a new year again, with previous Donors having first dibs on retaining their slot. Trophy value should be between 1-1.5m Rupiah, and of course we would like the donor to be there on the day to present the trophy to the winner.
